Whilst the weather might still feel wintery, spring has sprung. Whilst city-dwellers might easily miss its arrival, all over the countryside trees are blossoming and lambs are popping up in their thousands. Now is the time, therefore, to shed those winter layers – and I’m not just talking about chunky scarves! After all, as we all know by now, abs are made in the kitchen. So after a long winter wrapped up in scarves and huddled over warming bowls of comforting stew, the end is in sight. Like fashion, food has its seasons: now is the time to make the most of all the fresh produce that’s lining the supermarket shelves and get our kitchens ready for that summer body prep!

For a fresh pick-me-up in the morning, swap porridge or overnight oats for one of these nutrient-rich acai bowls. If green smoothies are more your thing, try this Pina Colada-inspired creation, or go for a zingy juice. For the days when you have more time in the mornings, or just fancy a more substantial breakfast, experiment with baked eggs or some protein pancakes.

Lunch can be a tricky meal. It’s easy to get stuck in a lunchbox rut, so here are a few helpful ideas that are also meal-prep friendly. If you’re working from home, whip up a quick mint, feta and rocket omelette, or try this delicious-looking recipe for poached eggs and asparagus on toast.

Now for the main event: dinner. If you’re anything like me, when you get home from a long day at work the last thing you want to do is cook a meal that demands hours of attention and about a million pots and pans to wash up after.
